Safe outdoor sports areas rejuvenated for local communities

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is delighted to announce that the refurbishment of Greenisland multi-use games area and Sunnylands mini pitch is now complete.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is delighted to announce that the refurbishment of Greenisland multi-use games area and Sunnylands mini pitch is now complete.

The upgraded facilities provide a safe and inclusive outdoor space for a wide range of sporting activities, offering health benefits for the entire community to enjoy.

Delivered by Tony Patterson Sports Grounds, the Sunnylands project in Carrickfergus features a high-quality 3G playing surface suitable for 3-a-side football, while Greenisland’s site includes a 3G surface for basketball and football.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman William McCaughey, commented:

“I’m thrilled to see these fantastic new facilities open to the public.

“They are a valuable addition to the Carrickfergus and Greenisland communities.

“The Council remains dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of our children and young people, and we hope these spaces encourage them to stay active and reap the many rewards of physical activity.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is committed to providing safe, accessible and inclusive play parks across the Borough with annual investment in play parks in line with the Council’s Out to Play Strategy and Play Investment Framework.
