The newly appointed Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Beth Adger MBE, has chosen Air Ambulance NI and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as the official Mayoral Charities for the duration of her term.

The Mayor intends to show her support for the two admirable charity organisations throughout the year, and vital funds will be raised through events and fundraising initiatives.

The Mayor said: “I am proud to be supporting these amazing charities during my term as Mayor. I hope to raise awareness about the invaluable services they provide and I look forward to working with both charities - and the local community – to raise vital funds to help make a difference during my time as mayor. I hope everyone will join me in supporting these important causes.”

Air Ambulance NI is a charity which works in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS), to provide the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for the region.

Serious or life-threatening situations can happen to anyone at any time and on average, every single day in Northern Ireland, two individuals will find themselves in critical need of the Air Ambulance NI.

The charity’s operational helicopter carries a crew compiling of a pilot, doctor and paramedic – 365 days of the year and operating for twelve hours per day. They attend some of the most traumatic medical incidents across the province and are dedicated to delivering the very best possible pre-hospital critical care – both at the scene and whilst transferring the patient to the most appropriate hospital for their specific injuries.

£2.5m is required each year to keep the air ambulance service operational. The charity relies entirely on support from the public and local businesses.

Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity uniting people to stop cystic fibrosis (CF). They fund vital research, improve care, speak out and race towards effective treatments for all.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

Since 1964, the charity has supported people with cystic fibrosis to live longer, healthier lives - and are dedicated to ensuring everyone with cystic fibrosis can live without limits.
