Mayor celebrates Pride month

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim proudly joins in the global celebration of Pride Month, standing in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and championing their health and wellbeing.
With the support of Mayor Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, Council is committed to fostering an inclusive and accepting environment for all residents.
The Mayor said:
“Pride Month is a time to recognise and honour the achievements, contributions and struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community. It serves as a reminder of the importance of equality, acceptance, and respect for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions.
“I firmly believe that everyone deserves to live in a community that embraces diversity and celebrates individuality and am honoured to support the LGBTQIA+ community during this significant month of celebration.
“At Council, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive society where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. We want to ensure that individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities have access to the resources, support and opportunities they need to thrive."
In pursuit of this commitment, the Mayor met with several prominent LGBTQIA+ organisations, including Different Therapy NI, the Rainbow Project and Turning Point NI. These discussions have provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community and have informed Council's efforts to develop initiatives that address their specific needs.
The Mayor continued:
“Mid and East Antrim Borough Council recognises the importance of collaboration and partnerships in creating a supportive environment. By engaging with organisations such as these – who offer valuable resources, counselling and advocacy to ensure that the mental health and wellbeing of the community are prioritised – we aim to enhance the services and support available to LGBTQIA+ individuals across the Borough.”
