James Hughes exhibition - painting a picture with a camera
Wednesday 20 November 2024
Ballymena photographer James Hughes held a special in-conversation event at The Braid recently as part of the exciting launch of his photographic exhibition in Mid-Antrim Museum.
The ‘Long Exposure’ exhibition showcases a fascinating selection of images taken since the 1980s in locations in the Ballymena area and further afield.
Hughes, who has had an award-winning international career, reflected on the inspiration and influences which shaped the 100 images featuring in his new show.
The evening also included a performance by singer/songwriter and artist, Bob Speers.
His photographs, carefully curated into thematic groupings, demonstrate his strong sense of place as a Ballymena man - which for all his travels has never left him.
Mayor of Mid and East Antim, Alderman Beth Adger MBE, officially launched the exhibition and commented:
“This is an important retrospective exhibition featuring over forty years of unique imagery fuelled by James’ curiosity and imagination.
“It is fitting that his show is held at The Braid, as for almost twenty years this cultural centre has allowed the Council to play a supportive role in fostering and celebrating local talent such as James.”
The Long Exposure exhibition will be hosted at Mid-Antrim Museum until 22 March 2025. Admission is free. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm.
