The Archaeology of Early Medieval Settlement (c. 400–1100 AD)

A talk by Scott Ingram

Thursday 5 September 2024, 7pm – 8pm

This talk explores the nature of early medieval settlement and society in Ireland from a mainly archaeological perspective, with reference to excavations that have been undertaken in the Larne area and historical records relating to the early medieval kingdom of Latharna.

This is Ireland’s first historically documented period, and it saw the arrival of Christianity and literacy, great artistic achievements such as the Book of Kells, the development of monastic centres, the arrival of the Vikings, and the beginnings of urban settlement.

This is a free event, however places are limited and should be booked in advance by contacting Larne Museum & Arts Centre on T: 028 2826 2443 or E: marian.kelso@midandeastantrim.gov.uk.
