St Patrick’s Day at Slemish

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day this year by taking part in the annual Slemish climb on Monday 17 March.

The hub of entertainment will take place at Slemish Car Park, with performances from local musicians; Portglenone Comhaltas, Counties Antrim and Derry Country Fiddlers Association and the Doone Brothers and children’s face painting.

Access by Park and Ride ONLY.

If you are taking part in the trek come prepared with suitable footwear (no soft trainers) and layered, waterproof clothing.

The one and a half kilometre round walk to the summit and back takes approximately one hour up and down.

Sections of the short climb can be steep and slippery and might not be suitable for all.

There is a free park and ride at Michelin, Raceview Road to and from this fantastic event, this service will run continually from 9am – 3.30pm (last departure from Michelin).

There will be NO parking at Slemish, Carnstroan Road or Carnstroan Lane, so a free park and ride service will operate from the former Michelin plant, Broughshane, just off the M2.

  • only assistance/service dogs are permitted at this event

Join us on Monday 17 March to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and take part in the annual trek up Slemish to enjoy the spectacular views.

The walk to the summit and back is 1.5km and takes approximately one hour in good weather.

According to legend, following his capture and being brought as a slave to Ireland, Patrick worked as a shepherd at Slemish Mountain for about six years.

To manage the traffic and for health and safety reasons, parking arrangements for the event are as follows:

  • FREE park and ride at Silverwood, Raceview Road.
    The shuttle bus service will operate from 9am-3.30pm (last departure from Silverwood)
  • No parking permitted along the Carnstroan Road or Carnstroan Lane

Please note:

  • No dogs or alcohol permitted
  • Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times
  • The event is weather dependent
  • There is no blue badge parking available at Slemish

Come prepared!

  • Wear suitable footwear (boots with ankle protection, soft trainers are not recommended)
  • Wear layered clothing & bring waterproof clothing

The Slemish Shuttle

Park and Ride at Silverwood (former Michelin plant).

There is no permitted parking within 2 miles of the Slemish site so please use the free Park and Ride Slemish Shuttle from the Michelin plant, outside Broughshane (9am to 3.30pm).

Departures are every 7 minutes and will be wheelchair accessible.

Toilets on site.

The climb is not suitable for all abilities.

Sections are steep and slippy, proper footwear and clothing is essential (NO soft trainers).

There will be outdoor entertainment for the whole family to enjoy and live music.

The return hike takes about 60 minutes.
