“Exploring Monochrome” - Art workshop with Cormac Dennis

Drawing and painting with the wonderful mediums of charcoal and conté.

Students will enjoy a detailed overview of both mediums, combined with a number of live art demonstrations focusing on the ultra-versatile mediums of charcoal and conté, that are perfect for both studio or plein air work.

The workshop will include a full explanation and demonstration of the materials and tools required to improve the understanding of tone, techniques to improve rendering abilities and overall drawing skills.

This workshop is for artists of all abilities.

Full notes will be made available, and all materials are supplied on the day.

Tea and coffee will be provided, however participants are asked to bring a packed lunch.

This workshop costs £55 per person.

Cash payment should be made in full at Larne Museum & Arts Centre to secure a place.

The John Clifford Gallery will be hosting “Monochrome Realms”, an exhibition of charcoal drawings and oil sketches from the studio of Cormac Dennis, from Friday 5 until Friday 26 July 2024 and includes Saturday opening on 20 July. 

Biography:

Born in Rush, County Dublin, Cormac Dennis is a renowned master pastelist and charcoal tonal artist.

With a distinctive talent for capturing the essence of landscapes and seascapes in both plein air and studio settings.

Cormac has showcased his skills as a guest demonstrator at the Dublin Plein Air Festival, RDS and numerous other art events. His work has been exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy (RHA), the Royal Ulster Academy (RUA), the National Portrait Awards, and various commercial galleries and invited shows across Ireland, winning several awards along the way.

Paintings and drawings appear in many public, corporate, and private collections, both domestically and internationally.

His ability to bring depth and emotion to his art through the subtle interplay of light and shadow in pastel, oil and charcoal mediums continues to captivate audiences and collectors alike.
