Cross Atlantic Cousins: Larne and the links with South Carolina, 1992-1998
A talk by Dr David Hume
Larne Museum & Arts Centre
Thursday 22 May 2025, 7.30pm – 9pm
The Ulster American Committee in Larne was responsible in the 1990s for highlighting the strong connections which the area has with the United States.
The Ulster American Memorial in Curran Park and a series of plaques across the area are a physical reminder of the legacy Larne Borough Council’s efforts to mark US connections.
Ultimately twinning with Clover in South Carolina was the outcome of the plan, first brought together to mark the 275th anniversary of the first emigrant ship leaving Larne in 1717.
This talk looks at the work and achievements of the Ulster American Committee and some of those who were involved in a voluntary capacity, working alongside the council at the time.
The speaker was a founder member of the Committee and a leading figure in the twinning.
