Carrickfergus Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is an ambitious regeneration scheme breathing new life into the town’s Conservation Area, maintaining heritage, boosting tourism and growing the local economy.
The £2.4million scheme is delivered by Council, supported by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and building owners.
The Heritage Lottery Fund, as part of the programme, has also supported the creation of a range of educational resources for all ages available for free in our Education section.
We also have our Carrickfergus THI booklet available to read online and/or download which outlines the work of the project since its inception in 2012.
Carrickfergus Conservation Area has a wealth of historic buildings and a medieval core predating Belfast.
Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Council, the restoration of several heritage-led regeneration projects is underway, revealing rare historic fabric and rediscovering the social heritage of the properties along the way.
The Carrickfergus THI is delivered by Council with the oversight of the Carrickfergus THI Board, which is made up of local councillors and community representatives.
We work with local building owners to restore and rejuvenate buildings in Carrickfergus town centre.
Our aim is to boost economic growth whilst protecting and promoting the area’s rich heritage.
Skilled contractors guided by us will help restore heritage lost over the centuries and reinvigorate the stories of the people and places behind what makes the town centre what it is today.
