Planning Policy
Council's Local Development Plan 2030 (LDP) - Plan Strategy (adopted October 2023) replaced all the regional operational policies contained within the various topic-based Planning Policy Statements (PPSs) and the remaining provisions of ‘A Planning Strategy for Rural Northern Ireland’ (PSRNI).
The PPSs and PSRNI are therefore no longer to be considered as material considerations in the determination of planning applications within the Council area.
The Plan Strategy also replaced the strategic elements of the existing development plans relevant to the Council area.
Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) for Northern Ireland
The Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) was published by the former Department of the Environment in September 2015.
It incorporates a regional planning policy framework which sets out the strategic direction for all Councils, including regional strategic objectives and associated strategic policy covering 16 subject areas.
The SPPS is retained as regional planning policy and will remain a material consideration alongside the Council’s adopted Plan Strategy.
